Recession? What recession? At a time when it seems that not only London, but the whole of the UK is tightening its belt, it seems like a weird time for the capital to flex its five-star muscles. But the last few months have seen a hive of activity in London’s luxury hotel market. Here are a few of the latest and greatest hotels looking for us to drop a few hundred pounds.

Four Seasons Hotel, London

The 192-bedroom Four Seasons in London has been a mainstay of the palatial Park Lane luxury hotel scene for many years. It was re-opened in 2010 after a two-year refurbishment project which cost £125 million. The hotel was completely gutted and has re-opened with a new, relaxed feel which offers a breath of fresh air from typical five-star hotels around town. The hotel’s new restaurant ‘Amaranto’ is more casual than classy, yet the Four Seasons is still an amazing place to stay. A whole new floor (home to a spa) was built as part of the refurb, helping to turn the Four Seasons hotel into one of the most daring and complete re-openings of recent times.

W Hotel, Leicester Square

Chic and uber-entertaining Starwood brand W has exploded into the London market with a 192-room new build in the heart of the West End. The hotel is only a couple of months old yet has already PR’d itself into the stratosphere with BAFTA after-parties (starring a rather drunk-looking Helena Bonham-Carter) and an M&M store. The hotel does not lack on impact (in typical W style) and features ‘Wyld’, a bar that can be seen from Leicester Square; its huge glitter ball tantalising passers-by; and the ‘Spice Market’, a South-East Asian restaurant created by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The glitzy modern building is located in the heart of the action and is a very exciting addition to the city!
