Sacramento County Property Taxes

Property taxes provide the county's major source of funding, and declining property values during the recent recession have put a strain on revenues. Currently the budget is $360,000,000. If cash reserves fall to the expected level and do not equal 15% of the total budget, Oakland County will be in jeopardy of losing its coveted AAA bond rating, making it much more difficult to issue muni bonds. Not many counties can boast of the same stellar bond rating or of the numerous awards the Oakland County budget financial team has achieved under the stewardship of County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.

Oakland County Republican Party

Patterson is a Republican looking for colleagues to get elected on November 2nd and join his team. Patterson started a three year rolling budget cycle, and recently all County employees took a 5% pay cut.

Anne Marie Blake of Bloomfield Hills, candidate for Oakland County Commissioner, thinks 5% is not enough. The twenty-five person Board of Commissioners' main purpose is to approve the budget. Blake says many residents in the private sector have taken 20% pay cuts, and in the face of harsh budget realities, self-funded Blake feels government workers should make similar sacrifices. Her biggest concern is fiscal responsibility. "This will be an unprecedented revenue decline," she said, "and we need good leadership from now through 2014 to avert the impending financial crisis."

She considers herself an independent conservative and if elected, intends to propose a significant across-the-board wage cut for all non-union employees. Blake has talked with countless voters who tell her they want someone new. Speaking from the campaign trail, she is fresh and committed, contrasting her coffers with the unbelievable amounts of cash others have spent on their campaigns and pointing out she is not hampered by monetary ties to deep pockets.
